Use Case - First Year And General Student Population
Students in the general student population often encounter obstacles that need help to overcome – especially as first-year students and oftentimes with their finances. But some students may not qualify for high engagement programs like HEOP, and oftentimes there isn’t a spot for every student who does qualify.
How to implement:
- Attach to first year experience or core 101
- Onboard students during student orientation
- Offer financial coaching sessions for students interested in preparing to pay for college
- Use alerts to identify students who are at risk of financial disruption
- Make students aware of campus resources that are relevant to them
Solutions:
- Financial Health Assessment
- Staff Alerts
- Automated Financial Guidance
- Financial Coaching Sessions
Who is involved:
- Enrollment
- Retention and Success Coaches
- Student Affairs
- Financial Aid
Outcome:
- Decrease response time to financial emergencies
- Identify students who otherwise would have gone undetected
- Maximize the utilization of campus resources by students who need them most
- Understanding the full financial picture of your student population
Case Study:
Using Arbol, Villa Maria College was able to retain a student in their general population who had straight A’s but was financially at risk.
The student app proactively notified the student and recommended setting up a financial coaching session with Arbol.
During the coaching session, the student disclosed he was considering dropping out to contribute more to his family, but after talking with Arbol about long-term returns and specific strategies, this student had the confidence to stay enrolled in school. He is now on the path to continue and is now able to better support his family and pursue his dreams.
Villa Maria College almost lost a top-tire student but was able to intervene.
